Pre-requisite qualifications

BHSc (Hons) Radiography or BSc (Hons) Radiography or DCR (R) plus The College of Radiographers Certificate of Competence in Mammography plus 3 years clinical experience in Mammography plus an Approved Clinical Placement with a signed supporting letter by the radiologist.

This module is not approved as an Elective

Objectives

Critically evaluate the processes involved in mammographic image perception; evaluate the role of associated imaging modalities; interpret, assess and communicate the findings from mammographic images; critically analyse the factors involved in medical image production.

Syllabus

To acquire the knowledge and skills required to interpret, evaluate and communicate the findings of mammographic images. This can only be achieved by understanding the factors which influence ones ability to reach a decision and recognise when strategy has failed. The student will also develop an understanding of the physical contributors to the medical image. Mammographic Appearances; Mammographic Image Reporting; Associated Imaging Modalities; Imaging; Anatomy; Pathology; Epidemiology and aetiology of breast pathology; Medico-legal issues.
